Candied Chicken Wings

Smoked Candied Chicken Wings on The Big Green Egg

This is a simple recipe that we share with family and friends. It is a great substitute for fried wings.

These wings are sweet with a bit tang, the sauce is sticky and succulent.

Again, if you prefer more heat make it your own, these are the steps I followed.

2 – 6-8 LBS. Packages of Whole Chicken Wings

¾ Cup of your favorite seasoning. I used Kozmo's Q Dirty Bird Rub

¾ Cup of Apple Juice for spritzing.

I covered the wings generously with the rub. You can use your favorite as I suggested in the video.

For this recipe I used my Big Green Egg. I ran the temp at 275 to 300 degrees. Once the wings were on the egg for 30 minutes, I flipped the wings and sprayed the wings with the apple juice. I repeated this step three times until the wings we ready to glaze.

Once the chicken reached 165 degrees, I pulled them to glaze. Below is the sauce recipe I used,

I tossed the wings in a bowl like you would traditionally sauce wings. I used one ladle full of sauce for every 6 wings. Once the wings were sauced, I returned the wings to the grill for 15 minutes. Once the sauce set up, I removed the wings to a platter to rest.

Sauce Recipe

¾ Cup of your favorite vinegar sauce

¾ Cup of your favorite hickory sauce

¾ Cup of honey

¾ Cup of dark brown sugar

½ Cup of your favorite hot sauce 2 Tbs of crushed red pepper flakes

½ Cup of ketchup

Heat sauce until hot, but do not boil. Once sauce is hot you can use to glaze.

Give it a try and always remember make it you own and make it fun!
